I had been suffering from an extremely disturbing health issue for over a year. I tried absolutely everything on the physical realm to try and work out what was wrong with me. I consulted with Doctors. I tried different diets. I started leaning in more to my meditation practice and even traveled to the other side of the world to attend a meditation course with a famous meditation teacher because I was so desperate to find out what was wrong with me.
I Had Every Resource and Still Could Not Find the Answer
I used to be a nurse, and I run a business working with the most highly accomplished Doctors from around the world. I probably have one of the most powerful networks in the world when it comes to finding the best Doctors. So how could I not work out what my health issue was?
I have been health-conscious and living a healthy lifestyle since I was 21; going to the gym daily, eating healthy etc. By every external measure, I was doing everything right. And yet the issue persisted, untouched by anything the physical realm had to offer.
Healing Began When I Was Introduced to Islam
It was only once I got introduced to Islam and started to understand God through the Quran that my body finally started to heal and I started to get answers, and then I was sent a Doctor who was able to help me.
The shift did not come from a new diet or a new specialist. It came from a new connection with the One who created the body in the first place. Once that connection started to deepen, the answers I had been chasing for over a year started to arrive on their own.
Doctors Are a Means, But God Is the Healer
Of course, we absolutely still need Doctors, and God saves people through Doctors when He wills. Medicine is a blessing, and seeking treatment is part of taking care of the body Allah has given us.
But if the underlying fear, disconnection with God or our truth, is not resolved at the core, no one on this earth can really save us but Him. The root cause of most of our issues will keep manifesting in different forms and ways until we surrender to Him, His Guidance, and His Will.
The Quran Translation I Read Daily
This is the version of the Quran I read daily by Abdel Haleem. I had tried other English versions previously, but I was unable to comprehend or resonate with the message through them.
I am aware that nothing available will be as accurate as the original Quran in the Arabic language, and I am currently in the process of learning Arabic. However, I personally found this version resonates with me the most, and I am able to get a lot of guidance from here.
A Du’a I Hold Close
La ilaha illallahu Wahdahu La Sharika Lahu, Lahul Mulku, Wa Lahul Hamdu Yuhyee Wa Yumeetu Wa Huwa ‘Alaa Kulli Shay-in Qadir.
(None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, alone, Who has no partner, His is the dominion and His is praise. He brings life and causes death, and He is over all things omnipotent.)
Frequently Asked Questions
Why couldn’t doctors and diets fix the underlying health issue?
Because the root cause was not purely physical, when the underlying disconnection from God is not addressed, the issue keeps surfacing in different forms, regardless of how many specialists or diets are tried.
Does this mean people should stop seeing doctors?
Not at all. We absolutely still need Doctors, and God saves people through Doctors when He wills. Seeking medical care is a means, but it should be paired with a sincere connection to Allah, not used as a substitute for Him.
How can faith play a role in physical healing?
Because the body, the mind, and the soul are deeply connected. When the heart finds peace through connection with Allah, surrender, and trust in His will, the nervous system settles, fear dissolves, and the body is far more able to heal.
Why is surrendering to God’s guidance important for healing?
Because the root cause of most of our issues will keep manifesting in different forms and ways until we surrender to Him, His Guidance, and His Will, surrender is what allows the deeper healing to begin.
Which English translation of the Quran is recommended?
The Abdel Haleem translation is the version I read daily and the one that resonated with me most. Other English versions did not communicate the message as clearly. The original Arabic Quran remains the most accurate, and learning Arabic alongside reading a trusted translation is highly beneficial.
