One of the things I really love about Islam is how clear it is. There are set rules and guidelines, all of them instructed through the Quran, and when you trust the religion fully and recognise that everything has been written for our protection, our best interests, and the best interests of society, you can accept life so much more easily. No attachments. No confusion. Life is actually very simple, not easy, but very straightforward, when you walk it with the guidance of Allah.
The Beauty of Clarity
One of the first things that drew me deeper into Islam was its clarity. So many of life’s biggest questions have been answered for us already. The rules are not arbitrary. They are not designed to restrict joy or limit human potential. Every single instruction in the Quran is there for a reason, for our protection, for our personal wellbeing, and for the wider good of society.
When you truly understand Islam, you stop seeing its commands as burdens and start seeing them as mercy in the form of guidance. You see why Allah asks what He asks. You see why He prohibits what He prohibits. And once that clarity lands, life feels lighter.
Why People Fear Islam
I genuinely understand why so many people fear Islam, even though there is nothing about it that should be feared. Most of that fear comes from attachment. Attachment to looking a certain way. Attachment to makeup, luxury cars, career titles, social status, children, family members, relationships, men, women. The list goes on.
People worry that submitting to Allah will mean losing the things they cling to. But this is exactly where the misunderstanding lies. Your base needs to be God. Everything else, family, work, beauty, ambition, sits on top of that foundation. When the foundation is secure, the rest of life finds its proper place. When the foundation is missing, everything else becomes shaky no matter how much of it you accumulate.
How Hardship Detaches You from Dunya
I think one of the main reasons I do not find Islam difficult to follow and obey is because of the intense challenges I faced throughout my younger life. By the time I came to Islam, I was already deeply detached from the dunya. The world had already taught me that its glitter does not save you when things really fall apart.
I found God at a very young age, simply by going through extremely tough situations and holding on to Him with a rope like my life depended on it, because it did. Hardship has a way of stripping you back to what is real. And what is real, in the end, is Allah.
Holding On Through Health Challenges
Earlier this year, I began suffering from a disturbing health issue. The way I have been getting through it is the same way I got through every difficulty before, by holding on to Allah with a rope like my life depends on it, because it does.
This is why I am able to fully surrender to and accept Islam. It is the only thing that saved me. When your health is at serious risk, no money, no status, no network, and no material possessions in the world can save you. Only Allah can save you. Once you have lived that truth, surrender stops being a sacrifice and becomes the most natural thing in the world.
A Deep Understanding That Came as a Gift
Since I was called to Islam last year and began learning about Allah through the religion, Subhanallah, I have been blessed with a very deep understanding. That understanding is not something I take credit for. It is a gift. And it is the reason I am now able to explain so many things to others who are desperately searching for a connection with Him.
We are all completely dependent on being connected with Allah. Nothing in our lives will work out or be truly successful without Him. We can build, achieve, and accumulate, but without that connection at the centre, none of it lasts, and none of it satisfies.
The Pillars: A Framework Already Given
What I love most is that we are not asked to figure this out alone. The obligatory pillars of Islam have been gifted to us as a clear, complete framework. They are designed to keep us steadfast and connected at all times, through every season of life, every test, and every blessing.
Follow the framework, and the connection stays alive. Drift from it, and the connection weakens. It is genuinely that simple. And in a world full of complexity, that simplicity is one of the greatest mercies of all.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do you describe Islam as clear?
Because the Quran provides set rules and guidelines that leave no ambiguity about how to live a meaningful, protected, and connected life. There is no guesswork required. The instructions are written, preserved, and complete.
Is life easy when you follow Islam?
No. Life is simple, not easy. Following Allah’s guidance does not remove difficulty, but it removes confusion. It gives you a clear path through whatever you face.
Why do you say “your base needs to be God”?
Because everything else in life, family, career, relationships, status, is unstable when placed at the centre. Only Allah can hold the weight of that position. When God is the base, everything else finds its proper place.
How did hardship help you accept Islam?
Going through extreme difficulty at a young age taught me that nothing in the dunya can save you. Money, status, and possessions all fall away when life truly tests you. That early detachment made surrendering to Allah feel completely natural by the time I came to Islam.
What role do the pillars of Islam play?
The obligatory pillars form a framework gifted to us by Allah to keep us steadfast and connected. They are not symbolic. They are practical, daily anchors that hold a believer firm through every stage of life.
What would you say to someone afraid of submitting to Islam?
That the fear usually comes from attachment to material things rather than from Islam itself. Once the heart’s base shifts to Allah, you do not lose the good things in life, you simply stop being controlled by them. And the peace that follows is something the dunya can never offer.
