How to Build a Business in Dubai From ZERO?

How to build a business in Dubai from ZERO is something I have lived through firsthand. When I started Allocation Assist Middle East 11 years ago, I had no funds, no database, and no contacts in the region. What I had was belief in Allah, a clear niche, and a willingness to do the work. Looking back, I can see how every step came together by His help, and how Dubai opens its arms to anyone willing to serve, learn, and persist.

What Your Idea Must Have

If you are starting a business from ZERO and especially if it is your first business, your idea needs to have these main things:

  • You must have a niche, specialize in a specific ideal client so that over time you will understand their problems more than they do, and you can also access their networks through referrals.
  • The ideal client you are targeting must be accessible.
  • They must have affordability (money to pay for your services).
  • You must be solving a problem for them.

How I Started Allocation Assist Middle East 11 Years Ago

This is how I started Allocation Assist Middle East 11 years ago:

I googled a list of every hospital in Dubai.

I went round and visited them one by one.

After making several connections, I got feedback about the market’s needs/demands, and what they were struggling with the most.

I built the business based on that feedback.

I did not start with a finished plan. I started with the willingness to show up in person, ask questions, and listen carefully. The market itself told me what to build, and I just kept refining the offer based on the real problems people were sharing with me.

Building Without Funds or a Database

I had zero funds or a database of Doctors apart from the ones I was working with in the NHS.

So I built relationships with 3 medium-sized recruitment companies in the UK and Europe to access their established database of Doctors and made an agreement with them that I will pay them 50% of any commission I make from their Database.

I also used LinkedIn heavily. I built up my profile and started connecting with HR / Recruitment people in the Hospitals as well as Doctors in the UK and Europe, and I made a target to connect with at least 20 people per day.

I recorded all these contacts on a spreadsheet, followed up with them, and built a relationship with them.

I also built relationships with freelancers who already had access to doctors, and I made agreements with them on a commission basis.

The Main Things That Made Me Successful

The main things that made me successful:

I believed in God.

I was extremely enthusiastic, energetic, and easy to get on with.

I worked for free a lot of the time to get experience and build trust and credibility with people first.

I was working with my heart; it was never about money.

I was focused on being of service.

I felt very drawn and aligned to Dubai.

I was humble.

Extreme persistence and perseverance.

Looking at this list now, I can see that none of these things require capital or connections. They are all character traits, and they are what Allah uses to open doors that money could never open.
